A warm welcome to Matthew Sudderick

Hello, my name is Matthew Sudderick and I have recently joined the team at Moreton Dental. Over the last few months, I have really enjoyed working in such a lovely environment with a great team and getting to know lots of patients.

A bit of background on me: I grew up in the North West in a town called West Kirby on the Wirral. After finishing school, I went to Leeds to study Dentistry.

Why did I choose Dentistry? – I was exposed to the job from an early age as my father is a dentist too, but this isn’t entirely the reason why. I chose dentistry because of its hands-on-nature and the satisfaction achieved whilst working in a caring profession. I love being able to put patients at ease and building close working relationships.

In Leeds, I studied for 5 years and also met my now wife, Beth, who is a currently completing her PhD in Law. I graduated in 2014 and went to work at a dental practice in Whitby, North Yorkshire. This was a great learning experience for me, as I was given ample mentoring and became particularly proficient in providing composite ‘white’ fillings as the practice was ‘amalgam-free’.

I then decided that I would try my hand at something a bit different, and ventured into Community Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery. This was an extremely valuable opportunity to see a diverse range of patient groups, including children, those with special needs, severe dental anxiety, prison dentistry and the medically-compromised. In hospital, I carried out lots of surgery, such as removal of buried roots and wisdom teeth, where I was able to develop my skills in these procedures.

However I decided that my future lay in general dental practice, and so accepted a position in Liverpool, as my wife had started her PhD there. It was here that my dental experience expanded and my interest in Cosmetics and Orthodontics developed. I undertook further training in these areas and started providing these treatments for my patients.

After 4 years in Liverpool, we decided to move closer to Beth’s family in Warwickshire. We are really looking forward to settling down here and making the most of the opportunities in the local area.

In my spare time, I love playing sport. I am a keen golfer, with a handicap of 6. I also enjoy playing football and tennis. I have a season ticket with Liverpool FC, which has been particularly good in recent years and I have been fortunate to go to the finals in Kiev and Madrid. Unfortunately, going to matches has not been possible lately, so will relish the time when football fans can return to stadiums! When it is possible to go on holiday, skiing is my favourite thing to do. I have been very lucky to have skied from an early age and enjoyed introducing my wife to the joys of skiing over the past few years. We can’t wait to be back on the slopes as soon as this is possible again!

I am already feeling very settled here at Moreton and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and helping patients through their personal dental journeys!

Best wishes,
Matt
