Plastic waste has really started to hit the headlines and facts like this have started to ring alarm bells for me. Many of us are starting to wonder how we could have buried our heads in the sand for so long!

Now, at Moreton Dental we are beginning to ask ourselves how we could make a difference by reducing our plastic consumption.

The good news is that there are plenty of ways that the fight against plastic can be tackled, and hopefully one day won.

Our first start is to switch our plastic interdental brushes to a bamboo alternative. The bamboo is 100% sustainably grown and each brush has quality nylon bristles, to keep your cleaning routine quick, easy and just as effective! The bamboo is also biodegradable and you can even compost the handles if you remove the bristles first!

This month we also have a new recycling box as part of the Terracylce scheme with Colgate. The aim is to provide a solution for used dental products that are typically very difficult to recycle and often end up in landfill. You can pop into the practice and drop off your used toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, toothbrush heads, interdental brushes and any other packaging from dental supplies.

So although it is a small start, the ideas are simple. We are trying to keep the solutions as practical as possible and encourage all efforts, no matter how small. Hopefully we can start to make more positive changes really soon!
